You’ve finished your first draft, but now what? How do you untangle the knot of your first draft so you can clearly see the shape of your piece? How do you tie together the loose threads of your subconscious to create a stronger narrative?
This four-week online workshop aims to teach you the basics of self-editing: what questions to ask of yourself and your work, and what skills you can draw on to strengthen your work.
It is designed for writers who have completed the first draft of a piece of fiction and are unsure how to tackle the next draft. During this workshop, we’ll focus on polishing an extract from your work.
Over the four workshops we’ll discover the heart of your story, look at how structure can support and illuminate your characters and themes, refine the voice of your piece and explore strategies for tackling further drafts.
Week 1: Find the heart of your story and how to use that to guide your editing process.
Week 2: How to use structure to strengthen your story.
Week 3: Honing a distinctive Voice.
Week 4: Next steps or ‘Are we there yet?’
By the end of the four weeks, you will have refined a short story or chapter from a longer piece of work and have gained some self-editing skills to apply to your future work.
