What’s covered with the whole retreat fee
The Retreat fee covers the core morning workshop, afternoon discussions, and all meals (morning and afternoon tea, lunch, and dinner). Accommodation is additional.
In addition, your Retreat fee unlocks access to a new year-long ongoing writing community, support, and inspiration which will launch post the Retreat, priority access to other Writers Practice offerings and helps to fund opportunities for writers from lower-income backgrounds to attend the Retreat.

What’s covered with the Retreat only fee
For those wanting to utilise the inspiring creative energy and environment that the Retreat provides, we offer a Retreat-Only option. This option is suitable for someone working on a self-directed project or study.
This option includes all meals, attendance to afternoon sessions, open mic, and other Retreat offerings excluding the morning workshops.
Accommodation is additional and can be booked when registering.

Pay-what-you-can scale
We have changed the payment model and now offer a pay-what-you-can scale. There are four options: friend, supporter, partner, benefactor. You can select the rate that is right for you via the dropdown at the top of the registration page before you start choosing your sessions.
Payment options
If you would like to pay in installments, select the $50 deposit-only option on the registration page and then indicate your preference for payments (weekly, fortnightly, monthly, lump sum) when checking out. We will contact you to arrange the payment plan.
The total Retreat payment will be due one month before the event on 22 January 2024. If the remainder is not paid by the due date, your place may be given to another attendee.

Scholarship opportunities
We’re aware that cost may be a barrier for some people and offer limited discounted and free places for writers who would like to attend but for whatever reason are unable to afford the full fee. This year, we are offering 6 scholarship placements to the 2024 Kāpiti Writers’ Retreat. We will let you know the outcome by 14 January 2024.
Volunteer opportunities
If you would like to assist in running the event we are also looking for several volunteers. We can offer a free place to participants in return for your help over the weekend. The place includes where possible, participation in one of the morning workshops. Tasks include packing in/out, food preparation, setting up workshops or discussion spaces, managing the registration desk/book store, cleaning, and driving (only if you have a full license and are over 25). We will let you know the outcome by 14 January 2024.
